The front door of No. 17 Castle Gate - Weaverswines.com Wine Tasting and Hospitality Centre

Welcome To Number 17

Behind this discrete green door lies one of Nottingham's best-kept secrets. With its own special atmosphere, this Georgian town house offers the perfect venue where commerce can be combined with the conviviality of quality wine tasting. It provides a more stylish and discrete alternative to a hotel conference facility.

The Perfect Setting For Every Occasion

For many years, Weavers of Nottingham have used the caves beneath the fine Georgian house as their wine vaults. In 1989, Alan Trease, Managing Director, purchased the building after seeing its great potential, not only for restoration, but for creating an ideal venue, perfect for any occasion

The Epitome Of Georgian Elegance

From the moment you enter, you will feel the character of this fine building. The sweeping stairway will reveal more of the buildings hidden secrets brought to life through its renovation.

The Dining Room

The Dining Room stands at the end of the hallway. Much of its original fabric is still intact, including the magnificent fireplace that emanates warmth into the room. This room is regarded as one of the best examples of the Georgian period to be found in Nottingham. Recognising this, the Nottingham Civic Society published a leaflet describing the history behind the building.

The Study Room

The fireplace in the Study, the smaller of the two renovated upstairs rooms, is yet another feature original to the building. Shakespearean plays can be found depicted in the ornate tile surround. The bold colouring of both the study and drawing room brings life back into these once forgotten rooms.

Drawing Room

'The sailor boy' sketched by a decorator many years ago was revealed on one of the walls in the Drawing Room, having been hidden for years by layer upon layer of wallpaper. This grand room, once the scene of many a family gatherings, has been revived after almost 100 years of neglect, and has again been put to use for meetings and wine tastings.

The New World Room

Upon entering this unique room, one feels the vibrant colours, reflecting the styles of New World wines. Hidden at the back of this room is a door that leads to the recently renovated Whisky and Port Room. Two sets of dividing doors open to make the Study, Drawing Room and the New World Room as one, ideal for larger presentations and wine tastings.

Kitchen Parlor

The remnants of a busy Kitchen Parlor, once filled with the hustle and bustle of maids cooking and cleaning, can still been seen today. In a corner, a large stone sink remains, just visible beneath cases of wine. The old aga is also hidden behind yet more stocks of wine.

The Cellar

Stepping down the stone steps from the Kitchen Parlor, the sandstone cellars reveal an atmosphere unchanged from past times. The honey coloured, castle sandstone creates an ideal environment for storing wines. Here, many older vintages are maturing in the cool peace and tranquillity of this rock cellar. Perhaps, many, many years ago, Robin Hood and Maid Marion once met here?
