About This Wine

Emanating from the north-eastern region of Italy. The name, recioto is a derivation of the Italian word, "Orecchio" meaning ear. As originally only the upper lobes, or the ears of the grapes were used. The most common varieties are the sweet red,"Recioto della Valpoicella" and the much rarer, sweet white, "Recioto di` Soave.

Recioto della valpolicella is made from the same grapes as its dry cousin, "Amarone", but unlike amarone the grapes are stored in special drying rooms , during the autumn and winter months. Although recioto represents only a small percentage of the total production of valpolicella this may well soon change as there is a lot of new interest and experimentation taking place with this style of wine.
