History

Frédéric Gueguen was born in Paris. At 12 years old, he went to live in the family house at La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, a village near Chablis, where he worked during his holidays and week-ends. After passing three technical school certificates, two in wine growing and wine making and one in agriculture, he became Cellar Master (Maître de Chais) on his uncle's property for 5 years. In 2003, Bernard et Lucette Trembaly, owners of the Domaine des Chenevières retired and they chose Frédéric Gueguen to continue and develop the Domain which now provides Frédéric Gueguen label.

Vineyards

The vineyard of Domaine des Chenevières, with a total surface area of 30 acres, is located essentially on the district of the Chapelle Vaupelteigne on the banks of the Serein, next door to Chablis. The vineyard is made up of old vines, planted in 1925, 1935, 1940 and 1952.
Frédéric Gueguen aims at integrating the vines in their environment; organic feed followed by ploughing to give fresh organic and microbe stimulus of the soil, but also assist the development of the vine roots giving the wine the wealth of kimmeridgian terroir specific to Chablis.

Winemaking

In his cellars, rue de la bretauche in Chablis, Frédéric Gueguen follows a wine-making process which preserves the typicality of each climat. The fruit from the 12 hectares are vinificated in stainless steel. After the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations at controlled temperature, the wines remain on their deposit to develop. Some months later, the wines are lightly filtered before bottling. As the wine is only lightly filtered some tartar crystals may appear.
