History
The C J Pask Winery was founded in 1985 by Chris Pask and his daughter Tessa McKay. Chris Pask was the first to plant vines and establish his Gimblett Road vineyard in the Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand.
Gimblett Gravels
Chris literally pioneered grape plantings at Gimblett Road, Hawkes Bay in 1982 - a move viewed with some scepticism at the time. The winery now owns and manages over 142 hectares of vineyard in Gimblett Road, arguably the leading viticultural site in New Zealand.
Four main blocks are planted at Gimblett Road, on the old riverbed of the Ngaruroro river. The soil profile is typically fine river silt over free draining shingle which supports premium vine growth exceptionally well. Their vineyards are within the Hawke's Bay sub-region known as 'Gimblett Gravels' - properties here have become highly sort after due to the unique growing conditions found within its boundaries.
Winemaking
In 1991 Kate Radburnd was appointed as Winemaker, to complement the growth of the winery with her talent and affinity for Hawke's Bay winemaking.

Kate, one of the country’s most experienced and talented winemakers, is highly regarded throughout the wine world not only as a winemaker but also for her leadership and contribution to the New Zealand Wine industry as a director of the Winegrowers association, Deputy Chair of the Wine institute and Chairperson of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.
Kate’s hand crafted wines reflect her distinctive style and interpretation and are best described as having elegance and balance while showing the fruit characters of the Gimblett Gravels terroir to their fullest advantage. As Kate says, "I make wines that I believe are the best expression of our vineyard. I have always believed in Gimblett Road and now the recognition and following is at long last being established."
